Sovetskyt Sport. December 19, 1967. As we have already written, young men under twenty and young women under eighteen were admitted to the individual event finals. Therefore, the performances of the young men were less interesting, since the participants of the youth championship - candidates for master - did not take part in the finals. The absence of these gymnasts, as well as a number of strong athletes of an older age, affected the results.
The winners did not distinguish themselves by the difficulty of the routine or the purity of the exercise. The scores were also low and they did not rise above 9.4 even for the champions. Only on the pommel horse was N. Surov remembered for his wonderful scissors. But the gymnasts were at their best and showed difficult, spectacular exercises. This is especially true for the floor exercises.
Speaking of floor, we must apologize to the readers for an error. In the commentary Search for Style (Sovetsky Sport, December 17), the first paragraph should read: "It is impossible to consider it God-knows-what kind of creative discovery that girls coquettishly shake their fingers at the audience or walk on their heels, like Turischeva, to whom this detail hardly adds prettiness."
