Bold, Difficult, Interesting

Sovetsky Sport. November 19, 1974. Minsk (our correspondent). Minsk resident N. Fedorenko became the all-around winner of the youth competition dedicated to the Lenin Komsomol. On the day of the finals, he was the best on three of the six apparatus - floor exercise, pommel horse, and rings. Outwardly, Fedorenko is a low-key gymnast, and he has neither underlined elegance nor particularly spectacular details in his routines. He looks like a hard worker on the platform. But one can feel that if Nikolai has learned something, he has learned it well. And mistakes, mistakes that often arise due to carelessness or negligence, happen to him much less than others. His program is quite up to date and is implemented very confidently.

Often in the athlete's appearance are the traits of his coach. Not only as a consequence of his views and principles, but even as a reflection of character traits. Fedorenko's coach, G. Dedyulya, is a modest, balanced, and businesslike man. He avoids loud phrases and spectacular poses. Nikolai took something from him not only as a coach, but also as a person - this is noticeable.

The second-place winner in the all-around, Leningrader A. Dityatiin, is very young - he is 17 years old. Back in the summer at the All-Union Schoolchildren's Spartakiad, he performed under the program of Candidate for Master, and now he is in the master of sports category - what a master! According to experts, he would not be embarrassed to enter the world championships with his high bar routine. His parallel bars routine is interesting, and his floor exercise is good. However, he makes mistakes often, but this is probably due to his age.

The third-place winner is 18-year-old Minsk resident V. Volkov, a student of the young coach V. Gusakov, a soft gymnast with good lines, distinguished by clean execution and high reliability. I would like to mention another athlete - 17-year-old A. Saifullin from Voroshilovgrad. Fifth in the all-around, he competed in three event finals, and won the high bar in excellent style, ending his brilliant routine with a dashing 'moon salto.'

In conclusion, I would like to note that the team championship was won by a truly friendly, hardworking, close-knit team of Labor Reserves, which united gymnasts from Minsk, Voroshikovgrad, and Kishinev.
