I have a lot to
say, so sorry for the long post. I have very limited free
acess time this summer, and only
when I do can I send mail.
Anyway, here we go:
1)Regarding
the Alabama/georgia thing. I sent e-mail back to the
person
who sent it to ME, but didn't post puiblicly.

Ack.
Server burped. Anyways, continued here:
1) Alabama/georgia:
I do not excuse Utah's behavior, Mrs. Ballard. I
think
laughing at a gymnast that falls a more than a bit nasty. But
I was simply
pointing out that I find the behavior between the two
schools
simply reprehensible. The coaches (for the most part) are
behaving, but the gymnasts (and the fans) now see this as a
war. This
is supposed to be a sport, fun,
teamwork, etc. I'd like to see the two
teams shake
hands and make up, but I guess that one is gonna only
happen
in my dreams..
2)Anyone
have any news on the progress of Michelle Campi? The
last I heard
was that she was undergoing further
surgery in December, but still hoped
to make a
comeback. And...since we are
on Michelle, any word on Silvia
Mitova? She was
always one of my fvorites, too.
3) Anyone got a
list of who is competing for the Olympic Festival?
4) Does anyone here
subscribe to International Gymnast asnd would be
willing to photocopy and send me a copy of the article on
the 1995 NCAA's
for women? Thanks
Okay,
that's all. Sorry for the double post.

I last heard from Michelle in late May. She said after her
surgery it was
evident that it would be "too
risky for her condition" to return to
international
competition, so she's implying that she has quit international
gymnastics. She is, however, looking to join a college so
she may compete
at college level. She also says
she's going to move to Florida.

A chat with Natalia Ilienko
While my friend
Kasha and I were at the British Womens National
Championships
today (1st July) we bumped into
Natalia Ilienko the 1981 World floor
champion. Natalia knows Kasha since they sometimes write to
each other. So
the three of us began chatting.
Natalia herself is looking very well, she
speaks
perfect English and she's been coaching in England at the Heathrow
gymnastics club. We asked her if she had heard from some of
her team mates.
She told us a few things:
Maria
Filatova is still living in Ireland but she said
Maria is looking to
move to USA but at the moment
she doesn't have enough money.
Natalia last met
Natalia Yurchenko in Switzerland, she was still doing some
sort
of exhibition there last she heard.
Nelli
Kim once came to England and she stayed with Natalia when she's here.
Nelli was thinking of moving to England.
Olga Bicherova is of course still in France with hubby Valentin Mogilny.
That's
about all she knows. We chatted for about ten minutes. Before we left,
Natalia
and Kasha were talking of meeting up some time so Kasha can go see
her house near London. Meanwhile I also got a nice autograph
from her, and
taken a few pictures of her and
Kasha together.
Here's some more news that Kasha told me (not from Ilienko):
Oksana Omelianchik
has returned to Belgium doing various things. Oksana's
home
back in Belarus (I think... one of the ex-Soviet state anyway) is still
very cramped for space, seven people in her family having to
live in a tiny
three bedroom flat.
Sherwin
Full
report of the British Nationals meet itself to
follow.

Oksana Omelianchik
>Oksana's home back in

Actually Omelianchik is from Kiev, Ukraine. She has a daughter, Nastya, that
last I heard
(early '94) was living with
Oksana's in-laws in Moscow.
Oksana did live and work in the US for a
while and was briefly married to a
gymnastics
coach here. Her current husband, Dmitri, is not a gymnast but is
involved in the military (I think he teaches at a military
institute). Oksana
has been in Belgium working and
coaching off and on for at least 2 years.
FYI, Oksana was the co-World
Champion (with Elena Shushunova) in '85. She
pinoneered back to back tumbling
passes and was the alternate for the '88
Olympic Team.
Oksana's
former personal coach, Tatiana Perskaya, is now a
coach at Capital
Gymnastics in Virigina. She
coaches '95 Jr. American Classic Champion Gail
Kauchura among others. Gail
recently took part in her first major Int'l meet
at
the USA vs UKR in San Jose. Along with Tatiana is the
former Soviet
choregrapher
that put together Omelianchik's well known routine
among many
others (some of Boginskaya's
early stuff, Sazonenkova's bird like set, etc.).
