Schools
My sister is a sophmore in high high school and is starting
to
look at schools for collage. She is
level 10 and is looking for
a school with good
science and engineering departments and a
low key
division I gymnastics team.
Any recomendations.

B.U. does still have a club that
meets a few times a week. The person in
charge is
named Karen(don't know last name). Anyway, you can call the
athletic dept. and they will give you info. Hope this
helps.

'92 scandal
Earlier it was mentioned that there was some kind of
scandal involving
Kellee Davis and the 1992
Olympics. For those of us who are
clueless,
could someone please reveal the
details? I heard Chelle Stack was also
involved. Is that correct?
Thanks,
Sarah

I thought Betty was going to University
of Illinois starting Jan. of 95.
On
that Gymn.
Gold Spectacular they interviewed Betty and she said she would be
going there starting Jan.
Does anyone know for
sure?

Yewki Tomita article avaliable
on-line via http
There is an article in the Arizona Daily Star about Yewki
Tomita
(son of Yoichi, coach of Dennis & Dan
Hayden etc.) who is a top
age-grouper
and is going to compete in J.O. Nationals this weekend (I
think it's this weekend...)
He
just recovered from a nasty p-bar injury. So for all of you
men's enthusiasts, the address is:
http://azstarnet.com/starnet/today/lx8401.htm
If
you read this after Wednesday, May 10, fumble around some and
dig up the sports articles for 5/10. Oh, another cool thing
- at the end
of the article, there's a hyperlink
to the Gymn home page - yay for us!
Oh, cool
color photo as well...

Re: Schools
Chris:
Have your sister check out the University
of California at Santa Barbara
(UCSB). They have an outstanding program of
math and science (including what
is IMHO the best
marine biology program for undergrads anywhere), a "low-key"
division I women's gymnastics squad that your sister should
fit right into,
and a campus located right next to
the big, beautiful Pacific ocean.
Let me know if you need more
info.

How the heck
cold Kellee Davis be involved with a scandal
regarding
the 1992 Olympics? At least in terms of
gymnastics ability, Davis
was still Level 9 (at
the very highest) then, and Stack finished
25th (or
thereabouts) at the USA Championships in 1992.

PRK
Does anyone know anything about North Korea's gymnastics
plans in the near future. Should I assume that they are
still mourning the death of Kim Il Sung (is that
right?)
Have they shown up anywhere since 1993? Should I assume their
program did the Bulgaria thing (i.e. dissolved into a
trillion
pieces and went down the drain clockwise
of course)..
Wouldn't Mogilny and Pae Gil Su in the same PH final be just too cool?
I
really miss the North Koreans.. the
women have a lot of
inner elegance.. go ask Choe, I think she'll
know...
Yearning for the days of full teams from PRK and BUL,

Well,
actually the names involved were Kim Kelly and Betty Okino.
Kim
made the team through competition, however, Betty petitioned in. When
the
committee met they decided to take Betty to the olympics,
although she
had not competed in the nationals or
the trials.
The real controversy is whether it is fair to have a
gymnast be able to
petition onto the olympic team and bump another one who has made it by
going through all of the required competitions.
That
is the controversy in a nutshell.

I had also thought Betty Okino was going to college in Illinois, but
according to IG and Bela Karolyi, she is in Oklahoma.
Yes, it is true that
Kim and Betty cannot compete in the NCAA, as they've
accepted
prize money. Shannon Miller is also
exempt from college
competition.

No. I think your names may be inside
out. There was some
controversy about Kim Kelly being bumped off the team at a
second closed
trials and Michelle Campi being named although she was
injured. It was bitter. I just recently watched some tapes
from
'92 before erasing them.

Nationals
will be in the Superdome.
I phoned Ticketmaster in New Orleans yesterday.
They said that the
tickets for Nationals start
selling next Monday 15 May. This sounds
awfully
early to me. Their phone number is 504-522-5555.
I got this number from a
WWW page which also has a map of the Superdome
with seating section numbers. Of course the seating info
doesn't help
unless someone knows where the apparati are going to be located.
The Superdome WWW
page is:
http://www.wwcd.com/stadiums/la/saints.html
The parent WWW page which contains a bunch of links to various stadia is:

Radford Program
I heard tonight that the Radford Men's Gymnastics
program has received
a one year reprieve. The only catch is that they need to find
a new
coach for next year. If you know of anyone who can coach a
men's
collegiate gymnastics program, in Virginia
(the western section I
believe) please have them
contact Roy Johnson, President of the NACGC,
